How can I be sure that Sea Training Sussex are a RYA Training Centre?

It is important that any school you consider training with is currently recognised by the RYA. To check visit www.rya.org.uk or call 023 8060 4181. Remember, not every website that carries the RYA logo or implies they are recognised will actually be so, so it is always worth checking prior to booking.

Does it really matter that I get training through a RYA Training Centre? My friend has a boat, maybe they could train me?

Without a doubt, there are many good boaters out there who have the ability and knowledge to be able to train others. However, this isn’t going to give you the qualifications you need. The benefits of using a RYA qualified instructor at a RYA training centre include:

  • The instructors will have been professionally trained to give the right level of knowledge in an appropriate way. They are experienced in identifying where (for example) a particular manoeuvre may not be going quite right and they will be able to provide a meaningful and simple explanation of how to correct or improve it. It is one thing being able to handle a boat, but it is quite another being able to competently pass this knowledge on to others
  • RYA training centres are inspected regularly and are required to provide evidence that they are adequately trained and insured for all of their activities
  • The certificates issued by RYA training centres are recognised around the globe and by boating/sailing insurance companies
  • Getting good training undoubtedly improves the fun that you have in your pastime as you will be more confident to explore more
  • That said, do make sure you get everyone to share their knowledge with you as this will only help you in the long run!

What type of courses do you run?

We run a variety of coastal based powerboat courses as well as a selection of shorebased and online training courses.

I don't see the course I want on the date I'd like, what do I do?

Depending on what course you are taking and whether you are a group or an individual, we may be able to schedule a specific date to suit. We would always ask you to try and participate in one of the courses already published (course dates), but if you do have a specific date in mind (that isn’t listed) then please email us hello@seatrainingsussex.co.uk or call us on 07713 639066 and we will do our best to accommodate you.

I've lost my paperwork, what should I do?

Not a problem, call or email us and we can supply duplicates of joining paperwork if necessary.

Lost certificates, however, will cost £25.00 each and you will likely need to supply a new photograph if it was a photo card style.

What do I need to bring with me on the day of the course?

On return of the completed booking form and full payment you will be sent detailed joining instructions which will include all suggested items and clothing you should bring with you for the course.

Do you provide all safety equipment?

Yes, we provide all the required safety equipment for each practical course.

Do you offer discounts for group bookings?
